PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Through Creative Communities, the Dance Institute of Washington collaborated with residents and resident councils of public housing complexes in the District of Columbia to provide quality performing arts education to high-risk children and youth. The Dance Institute of Washington provided quality evening and summer activities to instill life skills and discipline after school.

PROJECT OUTCOMES:

The Creative Communities project gave the children of DC public housing complexes new knowledge of topics ranging from conflict resolution to nutrition. The project has also strengthened parents' interest in children's activities. Children are more connected with the world of dance and with DC's dance professionals. Their self esteem has increased due to the positive response of their family, friends, and other community members.
